GET READY TO SPIKE, SWAB, & SAVE LIVES!

Hi everyone!

I’m hope you’re as excited for tomorrow as I am! Please read all the sections below (especially the Getting There section since there is a Half Marathon impacting our start of the day) to ensure our day goes smoothly and you have the most fun possible!

GETTING THERE

PLEASE LEAVE EXTRA TIME TO ARRIVE - The PB Fest Half Marathon is tomorrow morning and may impact your commute to the event. So, study the details below and aim to check-in at 8:30 am.

• Location: South Mission Beach (SMB), off Balboa Court

• Parking:

  • CLOSED LOT: South Jetty Lot until 10am

  • OPEN LOTS (by distance to tournament location):

    • Belmont South Lot

    • Bonita Cove Lot

    • North Belmont Lot

    • North Bonita Cove Lot

  • Street parking is also open but very limited

• Road closures: Significant parts of Pacific Beach are impacted so avoid going through there. The map below shows the best route into SMB and which lots and streets are impacted. More details: Race course & all road closures.

TOURNAMENT SCHEDULE

8:30 am - Check-in: Arrive by 8:30 to check-in, pick up swag, lunch tickets, raffle tickets, pre-purchased shirts, enjoy a light breakfast & coffee, and most importantly, learn about NMDP and joining the registry!

9:00 am - Announcements & raffle: Hear why NMDP is so important to me & my marrow donation story, we’ll draw the Volunteer Grand Prize raffle, and announce pools.

11:30 am - Lunch & raffles:

• Free pizza, drinks, and snacks guaranteed first for competitors and volunteers (lunch ticket is in your swag bag).

• Extra food available on a first-come-first-served basis for other event supporters.

• Recruitment & Volunteer Raffle winners announced throughout the lunch hour. Check the Winner Board to see if you won!

12:00 pm - Speaker & announcements: Before we announce playoffs, hear firsthand from Kellen about his experience donating peripheral stem cells and saving a life.

4:00 pm - Final raffle & championship game: Announce Recruitment Raffle Grand Prize winner, Cash Raffle winner, & watch Hot Sets Finals match.

TOURNAMENT FORMAT

Divisions: Competitive 2v2 (36 teams) & Social 4v4 (8 teams)

Pool Play:

• 2v2 Division:

  • Nine 4-team weighted pools (3 games/team)

  • Pool assignment & results landing page

• 4v4 Division:

  • Two 4-team weighted pools (3 games/team)

  • Pool assignment & results landing page

• Pools will be posted this morning but are subject to change

• Results:

  • Enter results with this form after each match

  • Enter each match ONCE (only one team needs to record it)

  • Review results on your landing page before playoffs. We do our best to ensure they’re accurate but need your help!

Playoffs:

• All teams advance to playoffs!

• 2v2 Division: 1st and 2nd place in each pool advances to Hot Sets. Top four 3rd place teams also advance to Hot Sets. All other teams advance to Rough Sets.

• 4v4 Division: All teams advance to seeded playoffs.

Prizes: Awarded to 1st and 2nd place in each playoff bracket! We have SO many prizes to give away from our awesome sponsors such as Mojo tickets, Volo league registrations, Beach gear rental, Blenders sunglasses, Knockaround sunglasses, Surf brushes, Coast passes, and Yulefest tourney registrations!

WHAT TO BRING

Layers - It’s chilly in the morning but will warm up to be a sunny day!

Volleyballs - We crowd-source balls for the event so please bring what you can and be mindful of keeping everyone’s equipment safe.

Sunblock & water - Must haves.

Speaker, shade, towel, chair, blanket - If you have em!

Snacks & other drinks - We’ll provide some but bring more if you can!

HELP WANTED

We could still use a few individuals to commit specifically to help with tear down around 4:30 pm. Please let me know if you can help out and you’ll be entered in our special Volunteer Raffle!

IMPORTANT NOTES

DON’T BE LATE: Plan for the half marathon delays. We’ll start promptly at 9 am!

EVERYONE ADVANCES TO PLAYOFFS: So please stick around!

CANCELLATIONS: Please notify me immediately if you/your team can’t attend since it will impact the tournament structure. Try to find your own replacement if possible.

ALCOHOL: If lifeguards spot alcohol at the beach, they may fine the whole group and shut down the tournament. Please don't let this happen, and ensure your spectators know the rules too! We’re bigger this year and the neighbors are restless, so be extra cautious!

NETS: As we wind down, please help tear down nets. Nets are borrowed so please keep all net items with their respective bags.
